1) Will the victims of Hit and Run road accidents  get financial assistance ..?

Yes. Those who are seriously injured will get Rs. 50000/- and the heirs of the deceased will get Rs. 2 lakh.

If the number plate and other details of the hit vehicle are not available, the injured/heirs of the deceased will not be able to file a MACT case for compensation. The Hit and Run Compensation scheme is a central government scheme that provides assistance to victims in such situations.

This scheme was implemented on 01/04/2023.

2) Where should the application be submitted to get Hit and Run financial assistance..?

The application for compensation shall be submitted to the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) in the area where the accident occurred. That is, if a Chengannur native has met with a hit and run accident in Kottayam, he should apply to the Kottayam RDO and not to the Chengannur Revenue Divisional Officer.

The list of documents to be submitted along with the application are,

  • Form No. 1 application
  • Bank passbook
  • Address proof
  • Police FIR
  • Injury report
  • Form no. IV Affidavit

In case of death, the following documents also needs to be submitted,

  • Postmortem report
  • Death certificate
  • ID proof of the deceased
  • ID proof of the claimant filing the application should be included additionally

Hit and run financial assistance will not be available for ordinary injuries. Only in cases of serious injuries, compensation of Rs. 50,000 will be available. The financial assistance is sanctioned by the District Collector based on the report of the RDO. As per the order of the District Collector, the General Insurance Council, Mumbai will credit the amount to the applicant’s account. If the hit vehicle is found later, the amount sanctioned will be deducted from the MACT compensation. If the road accident victims have received golden hour cashless treatment for emergency treatment, that amount will also be deducted from the hit and run financial assistance. Even if no information is available about the vehicle that caused the accident, those who are seriously injured will get Rs. 50,000 and the family of the deceased will get Rs. 2,00,000 as compensation through this scheme.
