Today, under the department of Indian Systems of Medicine there are 38 dispensaries and 5 Hospitals along with 6 Grand-in-aid Vaidya Salas. Twelve Panchayats and one Muncipality needs to open new Ayurvedic institutions in the Government sector.
The department also runs temporary dispensaries at Sannidhanam, Pampa and Erumely during the ' Sabarimala Pilgrim Season' twice a year. At Sabarimala the Department own a spacious building with treatment facilities which caters to the needs of the hour.
Panchakarma treatment facilities are available in all the hospitals under Indian Systems of Medicine department. Marma speciality is available at District Ayurveda Hospital, Ayiroor where 20% of the total cases are being treated both as O.P and I.P. Visha speciality is available both at Government Ayurveda Hospitals, Kadampanad and Thiruvalla. On an average 60 cases under this speciality is being treated as OP including Snake bites 30 % of IP under Visha & 10 % under Netra and 60% in the General category at Government Ayurveda Hospital, Kadampanad. A rare herbal garden is being maintained and an expansion plan of herb cultivation project is underway. Patients ranging from 60 to 200 on average attends Ayurvedic hospitals at the OP.
